Artist's Description

In 2005, while on a return flight from a show, I was reading Peggy Guggenheim: Confessions of an Art Addict. I was intrigued by a photo of the bed that was made for Peggy by the artist, Alexander Calder. When I finished the book I pulled out my sketchbook and did a rather abstract version of the bed. It got me thinking about what famous artists MIGHT have painted, if they were stuck in a plane or an airport. What followed over the next two years is a series of watercolors in my sketchbooks that reflect my whimsical view of modern jet travel. Enjoy.

Kevin Callahan

My philosophy is simple: Composition, Story, Elegant Line. "If you find the elegant line, your work will be lyrical." I produce works in pencil, acrylic, watercolor, found objects, and digital photography. I completed a Painting Intensive at the San Francisco Art Institute, studying with world renown Israeli artist Larry Abramson and at at the Ox-Bow School of the Art Institute Chicago under Phil Hanson and Michelle Grabner. I earned my BFA from Drake University in Des Moines, IA. My studies included an emphasis in painting and printmaking.
